Oats are also extremely cheap. In fact, oats are one of the cheapest, and healthiest foods around. At less that two dollars a pound for the organic options they are a real deal. They can be a great way to lose weight and stay healthy while adding weight to you bank account.
As much as I would love to pound away on my keyboard and produce countless pages bashing the breakfast food industry until my fingertips bleed, I kind of like my fingertips. So instead let’s focus on the alternative: writing about a healthy, nutritious, and homemade breakfast! The type of breakfast that will carry you over directly to lunch and beyond without any stops in Fatigueville, for the daily festival called Crashfest.
Of all the healthy breakfast options I’ve tried over the years, there is one particular food that I come back to time and again for that ideal morning fill. It is the show stopping, cholesterol lowering, blood sugar stabilizing, immune system boosting, weight controlling son-of-a-gun, Woooooooooooo!, yeah baby, Ooaaatmeal! The nature food for this Nature Boy, Woooooooo! And even though oatmeal will not turn you into Ric Flair, it may reduce your risk for type II diabetes, reduce high blood pressure, reduce the risk of certain cancers, and provide the body with an array of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. So why are we not eating oatmeal all day, every day?
Miranda’s Organic Oatmeal
1 cup of oatmeal
1 and a half cups of water
Half a cup of goat milk
1 teaspoon of honey or maple sugar
1 tablespoon of soaked chia seeds
1 teaspoon of cacao powder
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Chia seeds –
The chia seeds are a good alternative to increase our intake of essential fatty acids, especially omega 3 and to reduce appetite through a system: no more sugar cravings in the afternoon! Let’s discover together this valuable food.
Chia shows an efficiency of omega-3 greater than 230% compared to flax (in animal experiments). This marked difference was attributable to the great wealth of antioxidant chia. Moreover, it does not contain phytoestrogens.
The chia seeds are sometimes called “Indian food runner” (the food of the Indians who are) because they constitute the food of endurance among tribes of Native Americans. The Aztecs used it as an energy source during their 24-hour market as chia seeds are high in fiber and fat, especially omega 3. This explains why they could walk over a long period with only chia as food.
Cacao Powder –
Cacao powder is one of the most vital super food to have in your home. A sweet and dense powder, it can be added as an ingredient to many recipes ranging from homemade cakes to milkshakes.
Antioxidants protect us from harmful free radicals. A free radical is an unpaired electron. These electrons produce energy for us. As well as this, they defend us against infection too, so they are necessary for life. The only problem is these single electrons need to be in a pair. The electrons match up by stealing others and therefore more single electrons are formed. It’s when these new pairs are formed we get problems, as damage is caused to the surrounding cells. Antioxidants are the body’s defence system. They cancel out free radicals that are causing damage to the surrounding cells by giving them another electron.
